Fall is here and it's the perfect time for annual family photos. The air is cool and crisp and autumn leaves are putting on a show. Plus, you need to order Christmas cards ASAP if you want to get the best deals.
Coordinating clothing for family photos is a great idea, but everyone certainly doesn't need to match. It's a great time to allow everyone to showcase their personality and sense of style. So pick a color scheme, a pattern, a theme...and have some fun. Wear funky hats and gloves or scarfs; intermix long pants, dresses and shorts with leg warmers or cute socks; roll up shirt sleeves, accessorize with unique jewelry or headbands. Highlight a hobby or passion your family enjoys. There are no rules. Except it should be personal. Your family should look like your family, not the one on the Christmas card sample.
Because, while we all love to show-off our wonderfully made children to far off family and friends, the real purpose of a photo is to record a moment in time. To remember a particular season in our lives. To forever preserve the memory of our family for ourselves and our children. Photos are a crude time machine waiting to transport us to our past. Make sure you use them as such.
So, remember the rules...there are no rules. Have fun. Enjoy the day. Make memories. That's what it's really all about.
